This Father’s Day, Give Him a Memorable Day of Fishing!
The best thing you can hand Dad this June isn’t wrapped. It’s a day on Tillamook Bay and out on the salt with rod bent, fish in the box, nothing on the calendar but the next exciting bite. The photos in this post are from recent trips: bright Chinook, halibut, lingcod and rockfish off the bottom, crab rings coming up loaded. That’s what a day with Jamison looks like.
Father’s Day falls on June 21 this year, and it lands right in the middle of one of the best fishing stretches on the Oregon coast. Four fisheries are open or opening, and they run deep into summer. Here’s what’s biting and how to create a uniquely memorable experience out of it.

What We’re Catching
Spring Chinook in Tillamook Bay & the Ocean, Through June
The fish are in! The most recent ODFW Northwest Zone report has spring Chinook still being caught in both the upper and lower Tillamook Bay, with more fish moving into the rivers that feed it. Jamison is running Chinook trips in the bay and out on the ocean throughout June.
These are chrome-bright springers straight off the salt at their peak oil, peak omega, and the best-eating salmon you’ll put on a grill all year. June is the window. Once it closes, you wait until fall.
Ocean Coho: Mid-June Through Mid-August
The 2026 ocean salmon season off the north coast is open, with Chinook running through the summer and Coho on select ocean dates. Jamison runs ocean Coho trips from mid-June into mid-August.
Coho are fast, aggressive, and they BITE! Steady action, light gear, and the kind of day that turns a first-timer into a fisherman for life. It’s a fishery built for groups, for kids, and for anyone who’d rather feel the rod load every few minutes than wait all morning for one big grab.
Bottom Fishing: June Through September
If Dad wants a rod that never stops bending, this is the trip. Lingcod, rockfish, and halibut off the ocean bottom, June through September with nonstop action, little waiting, and a cooler full of some of the best white meat on the coast.
It’s the most reliable bite we offer and the easiest day to get a kid, a beginner, or a skeptical brother-in-law into fishing. Drop the gear, hang on, repeat. Lingcod pull hard and rockfish keep the box filling-up. Heavy halibut are a hefty lift. Return home with big memories and a the best guide to find top fish.

Crabbing: Year-Round
Dungeness crab is available year-round, and there’s nothing like pulling a ring stacked with keepers. Run it as its own trip or stack it onto a salmon or bottomfish day for a true surf-and-turf haul. Fresh Dungeness, cleaned and cooked the same day are hard to beat, and are a guaranteed way to send everyone home with a story and a meal.
